1. Scope of validity These instructions describe the kind and amount of the periodic inspections of all packagings of the BU-D type required by the transport regulations.
2. Purpose of the instruction The correct performance of the periodic inspections assure that the packagings are kept in a serviceable condition and that they will always fulfil the requirements of the certificate of approval.
3. Personnel qualification The personnel responsible for the inspections has to be familiar with the relevant inspection and working instructions and must be able to demonstrate to the compe-tent authority that it has the required skill or undergone training to acquire it. For the responsible person designated by the user the requirements for a works expert ac-cording to DIN EN 10204 apply.
4. Inspections before first use The inspections of the packagings before first use assure that the requirements of the certificate of approval are fulfilled at the time of first use.

The relevant inspections are performed during final acceptance testing according to a manufacturing and inspection follow-up plan.

The documentation of the inspections during the final acceptance testing which are relevant for the periodic inspections (visual inspection) is filed in the inspection book.

5. Periodic inspections The periodic inspections are performed yearly by the user and every five years by the expert of BAM.

If a container is not used as a transport package for a longer period as the period between two periodic inspections the next periodic inspections has to be performed at latest before the next loading.

These periods of stand-still are not taken into account for the inspection date.

Kind and amount of the periodic inspections are specified in a inspection follow-up plan (attachments 1 and 2).

There is also specified if or which inspection instruction has to be used for the per-formance of the individual inspections.

NCS GmbH Testing Instruction-No. PA-00-01 Page 3 of 3 The user of the packaging assures that at the time when the inspections have to be performed the latest valid instructions which have to be used for the testing of the packaging are available.

The results of the periodic inspections have to be certified by the works expert. In case of the 5-years inspection the expert of BAM checks the complete documenta-tion, certifies the correctness and completeness and marks the packaging durably with the date of the next periodic inspection.

The expert of BAM may perform at his own discretion periodic inspections at ran-dom respectively check the documentation. He therefore has to be informed in any case in due time of the performance of the periodic inspections (5-years inspec-tions).

Before the performance of the periodic inspections it has to be assured that a certifi-cate for the absence of contamination of the packaging is present.

6. Documentation The performance and the results of the periodic inspections have to be certified in the documentation originals by stamping or letter symbol and a record has to be prepared if required.

Because of the great number of packagings to be tested for the documentation a collective protocol for all inspected packagings with their serial numbers is prepared.

Only in case of deviations a separate protocol is prepared for the individual packag-ing.

The certificate with the signatures of the works expert and the expert of BAM is part of the inspection book which comprises the packagings with the mentioned serial numbers.

7. Non-conformities In case of non-conformities during the periodic inspections these have to be re-moved by suitable repair measures or the exchange of parts.

Repair measures have to be agreed with the expert of BAM and have to be ap-proved by him.

BfS and BAM have to be informed about the performed measures.

Exchange parts have to be in agreement with the parts lists and the material specifi-cation sheets and have to be documented in accordance with these.
