TRANSLATION Handling instructions No. HA-97-09, Rev.4 Page 3 of 5 1 Scope of validity These instructions are valid for the handling of the BU-D package while it is being loaded, and for the controls which are to be carried out during the loading operations.
Only package specific control steps which are relevant during handling will be presented in this document.
2 Purpose of these instructions The correct handling and the controls during loading assure that the package will be kept in orderly working conditions, and that it will always fulfil the requirements of the approval according to the transport regulations.
3 Personnel qualification The personnel must be familiar with these instructions. In case of necessity, it must be demonstrated to the relevant authorities that the personnel has the required skill, or that it has undergone specific training to acquire it.
The responsible person designated by the user for loading and release of the packages for transport has to have sufficient knowledge of the transport regulations and must be able to certify the correct condition of the packages.
4 Course of handling and controls The main handling steps and controls during loading to assure the fulfilment of the requirements of the approval according to the transport regulations are presented in attachment I.
Detailed descriptions of the handling steps are contained in the plant specific handling instructions.
The handling and loading or unloading of the packages must only be done in areas which are free of contamination.
The user of the package will make sure that at the time of handling, the latest valid instructions, or the instructions which must be used, are available.
Controls shall be carried out by a responsible person appointed by the user. The controls which must be carried out are listed in attachment I, in a follow-up plan for controls.
TRANSLATION Handling instructions No. HA-97-09, Rev.4 Page 4 of 5 5 Nonconformities Nonconformities within the scope of operation and of controls must be elimi-nated through adequate repair measures or by exchanging parts, before the package may continue to be used.
Repairs of components falling under steps 1 (parts of the inner container) and 2 (parts of the outer container and the thermal insulation) may only be effected after consultation with BAM.
Repairs at the surface of the thermal insulation are allowed without contacting BAM.
All spare parts must meet the requirements of the material specification sheets and be certified correspondingly.
6 Documentation The correct handling, the executed control steps and the carrying out and results of controls during loading operations must be recorded in original documents and countersigned by the responsible representative appointed by the user.
Due to the large number of packages which must be controlled, a global report covering all handled packages, mentioning the serial number of each package, will be issued. An individual report will only be issued in case of nonconformity of a single package.
Incidents and events that are not covered by the applicable regulations, as well as information on the operating record (experience in transport and handling) are to be reported in writing by the user of the packaging to the license holder.
This certification is part of the transport documents. The documentation of repair measures is part of the package's control book.
