October 13, 2022 Mr. Bob Coffey Executive Vice President, Nuclear and Chief Nuclear Officer Florida Power & Light Company Mail Stop: EX/JB 700 Universe Boulevard Juno Beach, FL 33408

SUBJECT:

DUANE ARNOLD ENERGY CENTER - U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSIONS ANALYSIS OF NEXTERA ENERGY DUANE ARNOLDS DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING STATUS REPORT (DOCKET NO. 50-331)

Dear Bob Coffey:

By letter dated March 31, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the decommissioning funding status (DFS) report for the Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC)

(Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22090A035), which was submitted by NextEra Energy Duane Arnold (NEDA, the licensee).

The NRC has reviewed and analyzed the site-specific decommissioning cost estimate for this facility, as required by Section 50.82, Termination of license - For power reactor licensees, of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR). The NRC staff also verified the amount(s) stated within the licensees decommissioning trust fund for DAEC as of December 31, 2021, as well as earnings assumptions. Based on the reported decommissioning trust fund balance, the NRC has determined that as of December 31, 2021, NEDA is providing a total amount of decommissioning funding assurance in the amount of $671,505,944 in 2021 dollars for DAEC.

This letter confirms the correspondence, described above, regarding DFS reports for permanently shut down power reactors as required under 10 CFR 50.82(a)(8)(v) - (vi). As of the date of this letter, considering the available information, the NRC has determined that NEDA has satisfied the decommissioning funding assurance requirements of 10 CFR 50.82 for DAEC as of December 31, 2021. A summary report reflecting decommissioning power reactor DFS is expected to be completed and made publicly available by the end of calendar year 2022.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding, of the NRCs Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of NRCs ADAMS. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html .

B. Coffey If you or your staff have any questions regarding the above, please contact me at 301-415-3178 or via email at marlayna.doell@nrc.gov .

Sincerely, Signed by Doell, Marlayna on 10/13/22 Marlayna V.
