i This is the first time I have heard of the term " core and non-core" portions-of p the imspection programs. Here is some information-I have gathered and or has i been told to me. See if this makes any sense in the context of where the_ inquiry i came from.
2 For the materials side of the agency, core and non-core portions of inspections i are.those categories of licenses with a priorty of 1, 2, or 3, or in other words, those licensees that require inspection conduction every 1, 2, or-3 years, which
- have the highest hazards potential of all the materials licensees. l i
! On the reactor side of the house, looking in the Inspection Manual Chapters 2515, at 2515-06, there is a paragraph on " Operating Reactor Inspection Program Elements" that describe three main program elements,1) Core Inspections, 2)
Discretionary Inspections, and 3) Area of Emphasis Inspections. Core inspectio,1 procedures must be completed at every plant at a prescribed time interval and provide a minimum examination of licensee activities - in order to confirm-performance and identify problems early. The other inspection categories (non-core-inspections) are not necessarily performed on a required schedule or at all pl ants, but are dictated by other parameters, such as findings from core inspections.
That's my best shot.
