Inspection Team composed of Messrs. S. Du Pont, R. Kopriva, D. Butler and 4

R. Mendez of this office and Mr. P. Shemanski of the Office of Nuclear Reactor '

Regulation (NRR) on March 3 through March 4,1989, of activities associateo with

the March 2, 1989, events at LaSalle County Station,. Units 1 and 2, authorized -

by Operating Licenses No. NPF-11 and No. NPF-18 and to the discussion of our

findings with Mr. G. Diederich at the conclusion of the inspection.

The enclosed copy of our Augmented Inspection Team report identified areas

i examined during the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted

i of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, observa-

l tions, and interviews with personnel.

A written response is required, by Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL)

RIII-89-007, of your findings and conclusions associated with the events.

Additionally, you are requested to respond in writing to the unresolved

items identified in Sections 5 and 6 of the enclosed inspection report.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this

letter and the enclosures will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.

We will gladly discuss any questions you have concerning this inspection.
