Theunitwasshutdownat4:08a.m._(CDT), September 23, 1986, to investigate the cause of high bearing temperatures on one of the recirculation pumps. During the shutdown, other maintenance will be performed including replacement of a recirculation valve in the High
. Pressure Coolant Injection-(HPCI) System and the evaluation and possible replacement of -
12 cells in the 250-volt battery bank. A vendor inspection determined some cells, which supply control power to HPIC System valves, to be degraded and the-HPCI system was
' declared-inoperable. Other Emergency Core Cooling Systems were operable, and the HPCI-
- problem therefore did not require shutdown. -
