This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. C. A. Hackney of this office and- I

other accompanying personnel during the period January 26-30, 1987, of {

g activities authorized by NRC Operating Licenses for NPF-42, for Wolf Creek

~

Generating Station and to the discussion of our findings with Mr. B. D. Withers

? and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during the inspection included the implementation of the

emergency plan and procedures during the annual exercise. Within these areas,

the inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and

representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations-by the NRC +

inspectors. These inspection findings are documented in the enclosed

inspection report.

The enclosed report identified five deficiencies in your emergency preparedness

program observed during the emergency exercise. It is requested that you

provide this office with a schedule for correcting these deficiencies within

30 days after receipt of this letter.  ;

The response requested by this letter is not subject to the clearance

l' procedures of the Office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork

Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.

Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were

identified.

Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to

discuss them with you.
