Subject:

Annual Report of Status of N.S. SAVANNAH, Docket No. 50-238, Amended Facility License No. NS-1

Reference:

Amendment No. 10 to Facility License No. NS-1 Gentlemen:

In accordance with reference (a), the following information is here-by submitted:

a. Status of facility: The vessel remains moored as before. No entry has been made into the primary containment vessel. Over the course of the year, the entire exterior down to the water line, except for horizantal deck surfaces, was repainted. The old paint was removed only where necessary for proper preservation. All other work during the 1985 calendar year was limited to routine upkeep and maintenance necessary to assure hull preservation, watertight integrity and appearance. The vessel was toured by over 250,000 visitors during the period. Although not within the calendar year, work was begun in January 1986, in pre-paring cargo holds 3 & 4 for use as museum exhibit areas, including pro-viding stairways from one level to the next, and cutting doorways be-tween holds on "B" deck level, providing direct access from the pier into No. 3 hold at "C" deck level which will become the new museum visitor access. These changes have been approved by the Review and Audit Committee, and the Maritime Administration.
b. Results of the semi-annual radiation surveys and monitoring station dosimeter readings: See enclosere (1).

i c. Results of the semi-annual environmental sample analysis survey.

See enclosure (1).
