COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKET NOS. 50-445 and 50-446 MANUAL ACTIONS FOR FIRE PROTECTION Gentlemen:
Per the request of Mr. A. Singh, the following information is being provided with respect to manual actions taken by operators in the event of a fire at CPSES:
A local manual control for closing the main steam isolation valves (MSIV) is being provided to assure that a fire in a MSiv compartment will not prevent operators from closing the MSivs. The additional local manual controls for the MSIV's support the justifications provided for Deviation 8c. (See Appendix C of the fire Protection Report)
In support of fire safe shutdown considerations, realignment of two of the train 8 component cooling water isolation valves (1-HV4525 or 1-HV4527, and 1-HV4513) is required. These valves are currently located out of operator reach (approximately 15 feet above the floor). TV Electric will make the necessary plant modifications such that operators can access these valves within the necessary time frame.
Cable interactions inside containment which could induce a spurious safety injection signal will be separated, as though they are redundant fire safe -
shutdown devices, from both the control and power cables associated with the seal water return isolation valve (1-8112). This separation will meet the separation requirements for redundant fire safe shutdown devices located inside containment per design basis document DBD-ME-020, "Fire Safe Shutdown Analysis."
