INTEROFFICE REVIEW 0F PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF 10 CFR 50.55a TO INCORPORATE THE WINTER 1982 ADDENDA, 1983 EDITION, SUMMER 1983 ADDENDA, WINTER 1983 ADDENDA AND SUMER 1984 ADDENDA TO THE ASME BOILER AND PRESSURE VESSEL CODE In response to your request, the Division of Engineering has reviewed the proposed rule change including the regulatory analysis to 1 incorporate the subject code edition and addenda of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code into 10 CFR 50.55a.

. Our comments which are basically editorial should the item proceed in its present fonn are in the attached " marked up" pages. An alternate

and preferable way of proceeding is with action on the majority of the adopted items and deferring the IWB-3640 issue until the ASME special task force has completed its review of that subarticle. We recommend that the adoption action on Section XI include only the winter 1982 addenda, 1983 Editior., and summer 1983 addenda at this time. The summer 1984 addenda contain no requirements for Section XI, Division 1, but for continuity should not be endorsed until winter 1983 (IBW-3640 issue) has been resolved.Section III should proceed as developed in the proposal.
