SUBJECT:
PROPOSED RULE TO AMEND 10 CFR 50.55a I have reviewed the Staff Paper containing the proposed rule to amend S 50.55a of 10 CFR Part 50.
I have clipped the margins in four places where minor editorial changes are needed or where typographical errors appear.
I have no legal objection to the substance of the paper, but I do think that the format on pages 8 and 9 of the Federal Register notice is in error.
Attached to this note is a corrected redraft of that portion of the Federal Register notice that I believe to be in error.
I will be quite willing to accept whatever DRR (Joe Felton and John Philips) approves.

(3) For a boiling or pressurized water-cooled nuclear power facility whose construction permit was issued on or after July 1, 1974:

(i) Components which are classified as ASME Code Class 1 shall be designed and be provided with access to enable the performance of inservice

examination of such components and shall meet the preservice examination requirements set forth in Section XI of editions of the ASME Boiler and 6
Pressure Vessel Code and Addenda applied to the construction of the particular component.

(iii) Pumps and valves which are classified as ASME Code Class 1 shall be designed and be pr.ovided with access to enable the performance of inservice testing of the pumps and valves for assessing operational readiness set forth in Section XI of editions of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and Addenda 6 applied to the construction of the particular pump or valve or the Summer 1973 Addenda, whichever is later.
