Subject:
Fue: Nozzle tip 10 CFR Part 21 - Interim Report Gentlemen:
Arizona Public Service notified Cooper Bessemer of a patential concem related to the ongoing fuel nozz!e tip 10 CFR Part 21 investigation. APS has identified microscopic cracks in one nozzle that came from manufacturing lot number D87001. The cracks are
,nerpendicular to the axis of the nozzle extending through the case hardening and stoppin0 at the core.
There are no instances of reported failurs related to lot number D87001. The cracks, identified by Arizona, are so oriented that one would conclude, they will not lend themselves to failure. However, Cooper Bessemer is recommending that the lot be added to tests being performed by Houston Lighting and Power.
An interim or final report will be forwarded to you as fur *.her development occurs.
Sincerely, .
l
