Correction of Typographical Error Regarding Fluence Value of Capsule W-275 as Discussed in NRC Safety Evaluation Report dated January 31,2013

1. Letter from OPPD (T. L. Patterson) to NRC (Document Control Desk), "Fort Calhoun Station (FCS) Unit No.1, Evaluation of Irradiated Capsule W-275,"

dated December 9, 1994 (LlC-94-0250)

3. Letter from NRC (L. E. Wilkins) to OPPD (L. P. Cortopassi), "Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1 - Request for Approval of Proposed Changes to the Reactor Pressure Vessel Surveillance Capsule Withdrawal Schedules (TAC No.

ME8219)," dated January 31,2013 (ML13017A467) (NRC-13-0008)

The purpose of this letter is to notify the NRC of a typographical error regarding the fluence value of reactor vessel surveillance capsule W-275. While reviewing the Reference 3 Safety Evaluation Report (SER), it was determined that the fluence value for capsule W-275 is incorrectly reported as 1.38 x 1019 . OPPD's Reference 2 submittal, which provided the incorrect value to the NRC was based on an Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Report, titled "Materials Reliability Program: Coordinated PWR Reactor Vessel Surveillance Program (CRVSP) Guidelines (MRP-326)," and which also incorrectly stated the fluence value for capsule W-275 as 1.38 x 1019

  • The correct fluence value for surveillance capsule W-275 is 1.28 x 10 19 as reported in Reference 1, which is the evaluation report for surveillance capsule W-275 that OPPD submitted following the capsule's removal from the reactor vessel in October 1993. The error does not affect the future withdrawal schedule contained in Table 1 of the SER and therefore, no additional actions on the part of the NRC or OPPD are believed to be necessary.
