Dear Mr. Jenkins:

Re: Surry Power Sta ti on - Oi 1 Spi 11 This is to confirm our earlier report of an oil spill that occ~rred at Surry Power Station on December 22, 1988.

At approximately 3:35 p.m., station personnel discovered a very small sheen of oil in the condenser cooling water discharge canal. The source was discovered to be the west yard drain in the protected area. The oil boom around the yard drain came apart, releasing a small amount of oil.

Station personnel used absorbent material to clean up the oil in the discharge canal an~ storm drain. The oil boom was repaired to prevent a recurrence.

No apparent adverse environmental impact to state waters, wildlife or public property was observed to result from the spill. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Mr. Glenn Bishop at 273-2988.
