SUBJECT:

UNIT 1 TRIP AND FIRE ASSOCIATED WITH MAIN GENERATOR DESCRIPTION:

This is an update to preliminary notification PNO-IV-RIV-09-001 issued February 9, 2009, a Notification of Unusual Event that was subsequently terminated.

On February 9, 2009, the licensee completed inspections of damaged areas of the plant from the fire that occurred on February 7. They confirmed the damage was limited to non-essential secondary plant equipment. The licensee ensured there were no operational concerns with the reactor plant and commenced restart of the unit. They plan to operate the reactor at low power, to assist in steam generator chemistry control, until the secondary plant is returned to service. Return of the secondary plant and synchronization to the electrical grid is scheduled for later this week.

The resident inspectors continue to monitor plant startup and repair activities.

The information presented herein has been discussed with the licensee and is current as of 1130 CST.
