No: II-17-007 March 8, 2017 CONTACT: Roger Hannah 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford 404-997-4416 NRC Names Senior Resident Inspector at BWXT Nuclear Fuel Facility in Lynchburg Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the NRCs Region II office in Atlanta have selected Charles Stancil as the new senior resident inspector at the BWX Technologies nuclear fuel facility in Lynchburg, Va.
Stancil joined the NRC in 2004 as a reactor engineer in the agencys Region IV office in Arlington, Texas. He transferred to the Region II office in Atlanta and served as resident inspector for more than seven years at the Browns Ferry nuclear plant in Alabama and four years as the senior resident inspector at the Nuclear Fuel Services facility in Tennessee.
Before joining the NRC, Stancil served more than 12 years in the U.S. Navy and achieved the qualification of Engineering Officer on nuclear submarines. After leaving the Navy, he spent 20 years in the commercial nuclear industry where he worked in licensing, procurement engineering, and operations and earned his senior reactor operator license.
Stancil received a bachelor of science degree in ocean engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy.
Charlie Stancil is an experienced inspector committed to safety, said NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney. His work will help advance our core mission of ensuring the safe operation of the BWXT fuel facility.
NRC resident inspectors serve as the agencys eyes and ears at some fuel fabrication facilities and all commercial nuclear power plants. They conduct inspections, monitor major work projects and interact with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.
