No: II-16-007 March 14, 2016 CONTACT: Roger Hannah 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford 404-997-4416 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector for BWXT Nuclear Fuel Facility in Lynchburg Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the NRCs Region II office in Atlanta have selected Mike Cain as the new senior resident inspector at the BWX Technologies nuclear fuel facility in Lynchburg, Va.

Before being named to that position, Cain was the senior resident inspector at the Vogtle nuclear power plant, located near Waynesboro, Ga.,

where he had served since 2009.

Cain joined the NRC as a resident inspector at the Summer nuclear plant in Jenkinsville, S.C., in 2004. He later held the positions of senior reactor inspector and senior construction inspector in the Region II office.

Prior to joining the NRC, Cain held various supervisory and management positions at the Robinson nuclear plant in Hartsville, S.C. He also served in the U.S. Navys nuclear submarine and surface fleet and retired as a commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

Cain holds a bachelors degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Mike Cain has the experience and commitment to safety to carry out the NRC mission of protecting people and the environment by helping to ensure the safety of the BWXT facility, said NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney.

BWXT is one of only two U.S. nuclear fuel facilities with an NRC resident inspector. The other is Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin, Tenn., which is owned by the same company. NRC resident inspectors serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.

The NRC resident office at the BWXT site can be reached at 434-847-7343.
