NRC NAMES NEW RESIDENT INSPECTOR AT BRUNSWICK NUCLEAR PLANT Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Mark nuclear power plant, located in Southport, NC., about 20 miles south of Wilmington. Schweig joins NRC senior resident inat the Brunswick site. Schwieg joined the NRC in August 2009 as a project engineer in office in Atlanta. He successfully completed the Resident Inspector Qualification Program earlier this year. Prior to joining the NRC, Schwieg spent twelve years working as a system and electronics engineer for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Georgia and five years as a submarine officer in U.S. Navy. Schwieg attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Georgia Institute of Technology, where he received a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. nd commitment to carry out the NRC mission of protecting people and the environment, and to help ensure the safe operation of the Brunswick At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.
