The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) to request that each licensee evaluate the licensing basis, design, testing, corrective action programs for the emergency core cooling, decay heat and the containment spray systems, to ensure that gas accumulation maintained less than the amount that challenges operability of these and that appropriate action is taken when conditions adverse to quality The NRC requested that if a licensee cannot meet the requested response the licensee "shall provide a response within 3 months of the date of this Based on an April 7, 2008 telecon between Southern Nuclear Company (SNC) Nuclear Licensing and Jared Wermiel of the NRC, a approval for an extension of the three-month response was given and the due date for the response is no later than May 30, The date extension for the response was requested and approved based on:

  • The short time frame between receipt of the NEI three-month template and the due date of the
  • To allow the SNC plants time to identify the actions which will be both prior to and after nine-months from the issuance date of the
  • The three-month response will be submitted no later than May 30, 2008.
