STURGEON DATA COLLECTION FORM For use in documenting sturgeon injury or mortality incidental to a federal action Comments: A deceased and severely damnaged Atlantic sturgeon was collected from the Salem Circulating Water Intake Structure during routine trash rack cleaning on 04/11/18, at 09:47 am. Positive identification was made by Environmental Consulting Services personnel at 09:50am. The specimen was measured, photograhed, and inspected for tags. No evidence of external tags was found, no existing PIT tags were indicated, and no prior fin clip was observed. Therefore, a pelvic fin clip was also collected for future DNA analysis. Upon completion of processing, the specimen bagged and placed on ice for transport back to the ECSI office. Both the specimen and the fin clip sample has been stored in refrigeration waiting further instruction on disposition. PSEG Nuclear Environmental Affairs personnel, after being contacted in regards to the incidental take, contacted the NMFS and the NJDEP at 10:35am and 10:38am respectively. The laceration appeared to be recent and is likely the result of collection during trash rack cleaning. A pelvic fin clip was collected and both it and the specimen have been placed in cold storage(refer to illustration regarding location of injuries). Location of severe laceration Photographs Dorsal view showing the size and condition of the deceased Atlantic Sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus), retrieved at 09:47am on 04/11/18 by Salem Yard Crew personnel during routine trash rack cleaning at the PSEG Salem CWIB. The specimen, the second of two specimens collected during the day, was severely damaged, exhibiting evidence of a large laceration to the left side (04/11/2018). A ventral view of the specimen showing the location of the severe laceration located to the right side of the specimen. There was no indication of internal or external tags and there was no indication of a prior fin clip, so pelvic fin clip procedures were implemented. The specimen, as well as the fin clip sample, has been returned to the ECSI office and both have been placed in refrigerated storage, awaiting further direction on disposition (04/11/2018).

Photographs A closer view of the severe laceration observed on the right side of the specimen, which left a large hole and revealed internal organs (04/11/2018). A ventral view of head showing the long rostrum and the small mouth, both a common characteristic of the species (04/11/2018).
