Dear Sirs:

In Reference 1 the Authority committed to develop an updated intergranular stress c-orrosion cracking (IGSCC) inspection summary.

This summary is included as Attachment I to this letter.

Welds have been classified according to NUREG-0313 Draft Revision 2.

Please note that Attachment 1 is not an inspection plan. Specific inspection plans will be addressed prior to the next scheduled refueling outage. is an inspection matrix for the five welds that have been determined to contain IGSCC and the two welds that have been evaluated conseriratively as containing IGSCC.

It also lists 1

one weld which was ultimately evaluated as not containing IGSCC.

This matrix was included previously in Attachment 2 of Reference 2. is a piping isometric for the reactor water recirculation system. is a discussion of the ten welds that have been inspected using 0*

longitudinal examination.

WELDS INSPECTED USING O*' LONGITUDINAL EKAM Welds 28-02-2-27 and 28-02-2-85 are reducer to cross welds.

Welds 28-02-2-30 and 28-02-2-88 are cross to tee welds.

The fittings on both sides of these welds are forged.

Dramatic transitions, major thickness variation along the examination surface, and a large coarse grain micro-structure make ultrasonic examination of these welds very difficult.

During the June 1983 inspection, welds 28-02-2-27 and 28-02-2-85 were inspected using 0*

longitudinal exams only.

In NYPA letter JAFP-84-1001, dated October 25, 1984, Table 2, this inspection was incorrectly reported as including a 45' exam.

These welds were examined again in September, 1984, and in Table 6 of that same letter, this inspection was correctly reported as being a 0* exam due to geometry of base metal taper.

Welds 28-02-2-88 and 28-02-2-30 were also inspected using a O' longitudinal exam in September, 1984, and these were correctly reported in Table 6.

In subsequent submittals these 0* exams were counted as intergranular stress corrosion cracking inspections.

Development of ultrasonic calibration blocks is underway for the inspection of these welds.

In addition, an aggressive effort is being made to formulate a viable ultrasonic technique to inspect these welds during the 1988 refueling outage.

Welds 24-10-130, 24-10-131, 24-10-132, 24-10-142, 24-10-143, and 24-10-144 are the RHR bi-metallic welds containing Inconel 182 weld butter.

These have been discussed in Reference 2.
