U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555-001 Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Unit 2 Docket 50-306 Renewed License No. DPR-60 Interim Report of a Deviation or Failure to Comply Pursuant to 10 CFR 21.21 (a)(2) Northern States Power Company, a Minnesota corporation, doing business as Xcel Energy (hereafter "NSPM"), submits this interim report.

On April 1, 2018, during the monthly surveillance testing of the Unit 2 diesel generator 05, a leak was identified on a lube oil pressure switch that provides an alarm only function. The failure of this pressure switch did not prevent the diesel from performing its safety function. However, there are several additional switches of the same or similar model installed on the Unit 2 diesels which, if failed in aggregate, could potentially impact the performance of the safety function.

The pressure switch that failed, manufactured by AMOT part number 4140CR1 E32AA0, was purchased from Paragon (formerly ATC) under their 10 CFR Appendix B program. The part was sent out for failure analysis and the station is working with the vendor to complete the necessary evaluation. It is anticipated that this evaluation will be completed by the end of July 2018.
