Duringthe1994refueling outage,externalleakagewasidentified atthepressurizer instrument nozzle"C"ofFloridaPower&LightCompany's St.LucieUnit2.Subsecpxent NDEidentified indications ontheJ-weldsforallfoursteamspaceinstrument nozzles.Modifications weremadeandjustifications performed todetermine thepotential forcrackgrowthduringplantoperation.

Theevaluation performed atthetimewasconservatively limitedtoonecyclebasedonthedesigninformation available.

Thepurposeofthisanalysisistoprovidestressanalysisinputforaboundingfracturemechanics flawevaluation sothatitisapplicable toallseveninstrument/temperature 1"nozzlesinthepressurizer.

Resultsfromthisdocumentwereusedasinputstothefracturemechanics evaluation, Reference

[7].Theresultswerepresented inthecoordinate systemofthepostulated flawasrecpxired byReference

[7]sincethefracturemechanics evaluation determined thepostulated flaws,seeFigure6.2.Thecomponent stressesalongapostulated flawplaneshowninFigure6.2weredetermined usingANSYS5.0Afiniteelementsoftware.

53'FStep-up(8hrinstantaneous) andCooldownfrom653'Fto70'F(9hoursto11.915hours).TheLossofSecondary Pressuretransient wasrunandtheresultsarecontained inmicrofiche LPTHERM.OUT.

Thermalconditions wereimposedonthefiniteelementmodelasappliedheattransfercoefficients andbulkfluidtemperatures.

Heattransferwasassumedtooccuratonlytheinsidesurfaceofthepressurizer asshowninFigure5.1.Allothersurfaceswereassumedtobeinsulated.

Aconstantheattransfercoefficient wasusedtosimplifytheanalysisinaconservative manner.Sinceoverestimating thetensilestressesattheinsidesurfaceofthepressurizer wasconservative forthefracturemechanics analysisinReference

[7],theheattransfercoefficient wasselectedtoresultinconservatively hightensilestressesontheinsidesurfaceofthepressurizer.

DuringHeatupandtheStep-uptransients, heatingoftheinsidesurfacecausescompression ontheinsidesurfaceofthepressurizer.

Therefore, useofalowheattransfercoefficient resultsinconservative (tensile) stresses.

Conversely, duringCooldownandtheStep-down transient, ahighheattransfercoefficient resultsinconservative (tensile) stresses.

Thetemperature attheinsidesurfaceofthepressurizer (essentially thebulkfluidtemperature) andtheradialhTareshowninFigures5.2through5.5.Thetemperature distribution attimesofextremehT'swerethenusedasinputsforthestressanalysessincetheextremehT'sresultedinextremethermalstresses.
