Gentlemen:

By letter dated November 22,1993 (Serial: BSEP 93-0199), Carolina Power & Light

. Company (CP&L) requested relief from the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code,Section XI in order to perform a temporary non-Code repair to service water system piping for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 2.

The request applied to a through-wall leak on the 2-inch Class 3 weldolet that is located just upstream of valve 2-SW-V47 on the nuclear service water header.

Repair of the weld in accordance with the ASME Code,Section XI, IWA/D-4000 was accomplished by replacing the 2-inch weldolet and flange with a 4-inch weldolet and flange. This replacement was completed on April 23,1994, and this repair was documented in CP&L's September 22,1994 (Serial: BSEP 94-0358) submittal of the Form NIS-2 Owner's Report For Repairs or Replacements for the Unit 2 Refuel Outage 10 (copy

attached).
