Dear Mr. Joyner:

I have recently (7111195) had a conversation with Mr. Stephen Holmes of the NRC

• regarding Radiation Safety staffing at Rensselaer. As you know we have had a change and a reduction in radiation Safety staffing at Rensselaer within the past years. This reduction is temporary as we have come to realize that current staffing is not sufficient for the timely execution of the duties of the Radiation Safety Office at Rensselaer.

The Radiation Safety committee had brought this to the attention of the administration more than .six months ago and has in the interim obtained a commitment from the university to seek an Assistant Radiation Safety Officer for campus and critical facility duties.

Rensselaer is committed to maintaining a high quality radiation safety program. To that end, we hope to be able to fill the position of Assistant Radiation Safety Officer by September 1, 1995.
