Indian Point Unit No. 2 - Request for Additional Information re: Connection of Non-Seismic BARS to the RWST (CAC No. MF9578)

Date:

Wednesday, July 19, 2017 8:54:11 AM Mr. Walpole,

By letter dated April 7, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML17104A039), Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (Entergy),

submitted a license amendment request (LAR) for Indian Point Nuclear Generating Unit No.

2 (IP2). The amendment would revise Technical Specifications (TS) 3.5.4, Refueling Water Storage Tank (RWST), to allow for the temporary connection between the non-seismically qualified piping of the Boric Acid Recovery System (BARS) to the seismically qualified piping of the RWST for a limited period for filtration until the end of the spring 2018 refueling outage (2R23).

The Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) staff is reviewing your submittal and has determined that additional information is needed to complete its review. The specific request for additional information (RAI) questions are provided below. The RAI question was provided in draft form to you via e-mail on July 11, 2017. The draft question was sent to ensure that the question was understandable, the regulatory basis for the questions was clear, and to determine if the information was previously docketed.

By e-mail dated July 12, 2017, Ms. Mirzai of your staff stated that a conference call to discuss the draft RAIs was not needed; she indicated that Entergy would provide a response to the RAI questions within 30 days (which would be August 18, 2017).

If you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 415-1030. A copy of this e-mail will be made publicly available in ADAMS.
