This letter is in response to your technical assistance request of June 1, 1995, regarding a proposal by Stan A. Huber Consultants, Inc., to use sand contaminated with depleted uranium in the manufacture of DOT-approved shipping containers. Your request was forwarded to the NRC Office of Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards (NMSS). Their response, signed by Donald Cool, Ph.D, is enclosed.
We apologize for the lengthy delay in responding to your technical assistance request. As we stated in our telephone conversations regarding this action, this request involved policy areas which needed to be researched. Tha concerns noted in Mr. Ortciger's {{letter dated|date=March 15, 1996|text=March 15, 1996 letter}}, regarding our late response, have been duly noted.
