APPLICATION FOR REVISING THE MODEL NO. 1105-SD TRANSPORT PACKAGE - ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW (EPID: L-2018-NEW-0002)

==Dear Mr. Noss:==

By letter dated July 19, 2018 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML18215A182), as supplemented on January 14, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19017A066), you submitted an application for approval of Certificate of Compliance No. 9379, for the Model No. 1105-SD transport package. The application proposes authorization of the 1105-SD package as a Type B shipping container to transport radioactive sealed sources in the Long-Term Storage Shield (LTSS) or shielded devices containing sealed sources. The application states that the LTSS may transport beta sources, gamma sources, and very small neutron sources. The package is designed with a leak tight containment that can be transported singly by air, ground, or water in non-exclusive use.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (the staff) performed an acceptance review of your application to determine if the application contains sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the staff to complete a detailed technical review. With the information supplied on July 19, 2018 and January 14, 2019, the application appears to contain the information needed for our technical review.
We have established a schedule for the review and estimated that the staff may need approximately 200 hours to complete its review. The schedule allows for the staff to issue the first request for additional information (RAI) in March 2019 and, if a second RAI is not needed, a certificate of compliance in May 2019, based on you responding to the first RAI in April 2019. In general, no additional changes to the application should be submitted except for changes resulting from your response to an RAI.

APPLICATION FOR REVISING THE MODEL NO. 1105-SD TRANSPORT PACKAGE - ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW (EPID: L-2018-NEW-0002)

Dear Mr. Noss:

We have established a schedule for the review and estimated that the staff may need approximately 200 hours0.00231 days
0.0556 hours
3.306878e-4 weeks
7.61e-5 months
to complete its review.

P. Noss Please reference Docket No. 71-9379 in future correspondence related to this action. The staff is available to meet and discuss your proposed responses. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at (301) 415-6999.
