In response to your letter. of August 10, 1981, Carolina Power Light Company (CP&L) has reviewed the construction schedule for the Shearon orris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP).

Additionally, CP&L is compelled to express its concerns with the shortened licensing schedule described in your letter, especially the time allowed for hearings. CP&L expects intervention during the licensing process before the final suppkement <o the Safety Evaluatioa Report (SER) is- issued.

Therefore, CP&L requests that the NRC allow more thaa the standard eleven~oath time period for hearings.                           An eighteen month period, evea considering the efficiency measures projected to be in place in the near future, would be more appropriate. This longer period for hearings may necessitate aa earlier issuance of the SER than presently scheduled.
