TELEC0 PIED INFORMATION ON CORE SHROUD WELD INSPECTIONS (TAC NO. M98170)

On March 20, 1997, the NRC staff participated in a telephone conference with Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (licensee) to discuss, in part, the licensee's observations from inspections of core shroud vertical welds V9 and V10 at Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station Unit No. 1 (See NRC telephone conversation summary dated March 24,1997). of that summary included results of the ultrasonic inspection of vertical welds V9 and V10 that was telecopied to the NRC prior to the telephone conference. The licensee stated during the telephone conference that it would expand the inspection sample to include other shroud welds in accordance with criteria in Boiling Water Reactor Vessel Internal Project (BWRVIP07), " Guidelines for Reinspection of BWR Core Shrouds," and would provide results of these inspections to the NRC as they became available.

Accordingly, the enclosures to this memorandum are copies of the core shroud inspection results and schedules that the licensee has telecopied to the NRC staff since the March 20, 1997, telephone conversation.
