he certificate of Conpliance for Radioactive Materials Packages, Certificate No. 9100 was issued by the NRC to Kerr-McGee Nuclear Corporation on Septenber 26, 1983. The certificate expires May 31, 1988 (copy enclosed).

Sequoyah Puels Corporation, formerly Kerr-McGee Nuclear Corporation, is currently preparing an order for a number of slurry transport packages conforming to the certificate of Compliance, Section 5(a)(2) requirements.

In this regard SPC requests early renewal of the Certificate of Ccapliance so that it may be attached to the purchase requisition for these tanks. Your timely review at this time is greatly appreciated.

The container is a 4,950 gallon stainless steel cylindrical tank lll supported by a truss-type framework on a motor vehicle trailer. The I

1/4" thick tank is 82-1/2" in diameter with an overall length of 229" ll including the torispherical end bulkheads. Seven flanged, asbestos-l I

l ll gasketed access ports and a, rupture disk are provided on the top ll t;

surface. The tank is covered with an aluminum shell enclosing 3" l j h

fiberglass insulation. The tank is supported by bolsters attached to l

a 238-1/2" x 96" x 96" angle, channel and I-beam frame which is attached l

si to a trailer at four points. Excluding the trailer, the gross weight I

of the packaging is 55,000 pounds.

Addendum A Certificate of Compliance for Radioactive Materials Packages Certificate No. 9100 Docket No. 71-9100 Prior to each

shipment, the tank and support frame shall be inspected as noted below.*

a. Area for Inspection Each of the ten welded truss joints per side of the cargo tank frame and the interior for each of the six main support bolsters where they are attached to the vertical strength rings onto the vessel wall (four inspection ports per side

- eight total) will be inspected.

b.

Frequency The complete inspection delineated above will be conducted prior to each shipment of the ore concentrate slurry on public highway.

c. Inspectors The OA inspector will personally conduct each required inapection.

d. Recordkeeping The

attached, detailed inspection

form, will be followed for each inspection and kept on file for future reference.
