GENERIC ISSUE MANAGEMENT CONTROL SYSTEM REPORT FOR THE SECOND HALF OF FISCAL YEAR 2021

SUMMARY

STATUS OF ACTIVE GENERIC ISSUES During this reporting period (April 2021 through October 2021), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff exited its one proposed generic issue (GI). At the end of this reporting period, there are no active generic issues being managed by the GI program.

The technical concern of the proposed GI was the effects of high energy arc faults (HEAF) involving aluminum at nuclear power plants. While still in the pre-GI exploration phase, the staff concluded that several areas of long-term research must be performed in order to fully and accurately assess the risk posed by the issue. As such, the issue no longer meets the necessary screening criteria for tracking through the GI program.

The RES Director issued a memorandum on September 1, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21237A360) which officially exited PRE-GI-018 from the GI Program, and follow-on activities will not be tracked by the GI program at this time.

Additional information on this closed proposed GI and other former GIs appear on the GI dashboard located at: http://www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/regulatory/genissues/dashboard.html.
