2.
Westinghouse Letter to NRC dated May 1, 1989, (NS-NRC-89-3432) " Steam Generator Tube Plug Integrity Update."
Gentlemen:
The subject bulletin requested utilities to determino whether certain mechanical plugs (heat numbers 3279, 3513, 3962, and 4523) supplied by Westinghouse are installed in their steam generators. Should these plugs be installed, the bulletin also requested that an action plan be implemented to ensure the plugs in question will continue to provide adequate assurance of reactor coolant system pressure boundary integrity.
A review of plant records indicate that mechanical plugs with heat numbers 3.279, 3513, 3962, and 4523 are not installed in the steam generators at Waterford 3.
The records indicate that in the last two refueling outages seventeen Westinghouse supplied mechanical plugs (heat numbers 1989, 5222) were installed at Waterford 3.
Therefore, in accordance with Action 2e, should any of these plugs be removed, a sample of each heat will be examined for primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC). As requested in the bulletin, results of these examinations will be forwarded to Westinghouse.
