DOCKET N05. 50-445 AND 50-446 DESIGN BASIS TURNADO (DBT) ANALYSIS FOR SAFETY RELATED FOUIPMENT SDAR: CP-87-64 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On August 24, 1987, we verbally notified your Mr. H. S. Phillips of a potentially reportable item involving the pressure relieving capacity of the tornado venting devices on Units 1 and 2.
Specifically, the existing Design Basis Tornado (DBT) analysis does not include suf ficient documentation to shot' conclusively that safety-related equipment can withstand the differential pressures (negative pressure transient) expected during the DBT. Our previous interim report logged TXX-6732, was submit.ted on September 27, 1987.
We are continuing the analysis of the effects of DBTs on safety-related equipment utilizing pressure differential values determined from calculations based cr the as-built design.
We anticipate submitting our next report on this issue no later than February 2,1988.
Very truly yours, S co. W W. G. Counsil k
