-DOCKET N05. 50-445 AND 50-446 RAYCHEM MOTOR CONNECTION KITS SDAR: CP-87-35 (FINAL REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On July 15, 1987, we verbally notified your Mr. I. Barnes of a deficiency involving Raychem Motor Connection Kits (Model No. NMCK-2V-35-00) which were provided to CPSES with shims which may not be compatible with the use range l
requirements of the supplied breakout components. Our most recent interim report was logged TXX-6904, dated October 30, 1987.
After further evaluation, we have determined that this issue is not reportable pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e).
In evaluating these conditions, we have_ researched Class 1E and associated cable terminations for cable sizes affected by the motor. connection kits.
These efforts have revealed that the kits were installed on IE cables located in Non-LOCA or Non-HELB areas.
In'these areas, only the electrical insulation properties of the shim is required. Testing conducted by Raychem has shown that insulation properties of the material are not affected by shim size.
Therefore, we have concluded that this deficiency would not have adversely affected safe operations over the life of the plant.
Despite the lack of safety concerns associated with this issue, the kits are a non-standard configuration and will be replaced with standard kits supplied by Raychem.
