I Gentlemen:

0n August 14;.1986, we verbally notified your Mr. I. Barnes of a deficiency.

" involving the seismic. air gap design adequacy between the Auxiliary Building and Units 1 and 2 Containment Buildings.

This is an interim report of a-potentially reportable item under the provis' ions of 10CFR50.55(e). ' Our last-

interim report was logged TXX-6720, dated September 11, 1987.

O We are' continuing the development of the alternate calculations and these calculations are currently-in the final stages of review. After'the completion of these' alternate calculations, a conclusion will be made regarding the safety of plant operations had this condition gone uncorrected.

Our next report on'this issue will be submitted no later than January 8, 1988.
