-Gentlemen:
On July 15, 1987, we verbally notified your Mr. I Barnes of a deficiency involving the. optical isolator chips used in NSSS control cabinets furnished to CPSES by Westinghouse which have experienced an apparently high failure rate.
This is an interim. report of a potentially re)ortable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(c). Our latest report on t1is issue was logged TXX-6640, dated August 13, 1987.
We are continuing our evaluation of this issue and will submit our next report by December 7, 1987.
