DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 DRILLING / CUTTING 0F REINFORCING STEEL IN THE FUEL BUILDING SDAR:
CP-86-58-(FINAL REPORT)
Dear Mr. Johnson:
On August 29, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. T. F. Westerman of a deficiency involving the drilling / cutting of reinforcing steel in the fuel handling building.
Specifically, drilling / cutting activities were cited at elevation 810'-6" which possibly extend to the third layer of reinforcing steel although only cutting of the first layer was authorized. We have submitted an interim report logged TXX-5051, dated September 29, 1986.
Stractural evaluations have been performed which demonstrate that additional cutting of the third layer rebar steel is acceptable. The applicable design char.ge document has been revi. sed to reflect acceptance of the condition.
We have concluded in the event this issue had remained undetected, no condition adverse to safety would exist. This issue is not reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
Records supporting this conclusion are available for your inspectors to review at the CPSES project site.
