SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 REPORT ON STONE & WEBSTER ENGINEERING CORPORATION'S EVALUATION AND RESOLUTION OF GENERIC TECHNICAL ISSUES

Dear Mr. Noonan:

In order to provide you with Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation's (SWEC) proposed methods for assuring resolution to external source issues which relate to pipe stress analysis and pipe support design, we have enclosed 15 copies of the subject report.

SWEC has grouped concerns of CASE, CYGNA, and the NRC staff into 33 specific topics.

Each topic is addressed in the appendixes of the report.

We are forwarding this SWEC report to assist you and your staff in evaluating the pipe stress analysis and pipe support design requalification efforts.

In addition, we are available to present a summary of the report and answer related questions you may have. We do not request action by the NRC on the proposed methods at this time.

Texas Utilities Generating Company is currently evaluating the adequacy of the proposed methods and their effect on CPSES. We will apprise you of develop-ments in the proposed methods. The revised procedures for its implementation will follow. When proposed methods are adopted that require NRC review, a formal submittal will be made either in the form of docketed letters or FSAR Amendment requests.

Very truly yours, W. G. Counsil JDS/arh Enclosure 8607110085 860709 PDR ADOCK 0500 5
