SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 EMERGENCY PLANNING

Dear Mr. Youngblood:

The following information is provided to facilitate the NRC review of CPSES emergency planning.

During September 1983, special facilities and county emergency operations centers were supplied with tone activated EBS radios.

Also, the public information brochure, which provides emergency response information, was distributed to the residents of Hood and Somervell Counties.

During the same period, posters were placed in public buildings, various private buildings, camp grounds, as well as other recreational areas.

These posters illustrate the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone at CPSES and provide specific emergency response information for the transient population.

The description and purpose of the CPSES Outdoor Warning System is provided in the public information brochure and on the posters.

The system, consisting of two operations consoles and sixty-five 128-dB sirens, is operational and is now being tested on a monthly basis.

The attached figure provides the siren locations.

Sincerely, H. C. Schmidt RWH:tls Attachment c - J. J. Stefano D. M. Rohrer D
