Issuance of Close Out Letters for Bulletin 12-01, Design Vulnerability in Electric Power System
On September 20, 2021, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff issued a closeout letter (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21253A113) for Bulletin 2012-01, Design Vulnerability in Electric Power System (ADAMS Accession No. ML12074A115), for Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant (Hatch), Units 1 and
- 2. The staff has reviewed the information submitted by Southern Nuclear Operating Company and the results of NRCs TI 2515/194 inspection for Hatch in reaching the closeout conclusion.
Issuance of Amendment to the Southern Nuclear Operating Company Fleet Regarding Emergency Plan
On September 21, 2021, the NRC staff issued amendments to the Southern Nuclear Operating Company Fleet (SNC) (ADAMS Accession No. ML21217A091), to revise the SNC Standard Emergency Plan, including the site annexes, to change the emergency response organization staffing composition and to extend staff augmentation times from 75 to 90 minutes.
NRC Hosts Public Meeting with the Industrys Reactor Oversight Process Task Force
On September 23, 2021, NRC staff hosted a public meeting with the industrys Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Task Force and members of the public to discuss: Industry Feedback on the Withdrawal of the ROP Enhancement and ROP Engineering Inspection SECY Papers (ADAMS Accession No. ML21266A065); Status Updates on Title10 of the Code of Federal Regulations 50.72(b) Rulemaking, Problem Identification and Resolution, Cross Cutting Issues and Column 3 of the ROP Action Matrix; Industry Status of Plans for Reporting Guidance Applicable to Plants with Risk-Informed Licensing Bases (ADAMS Accession No. ML21266A065); and Status of Inspection Manual Chapter 0609, Appendix D. The staff informed meeting participants that the NRCs COVID Lessons Learned Working Group Charter is publicly available and will be discussed at a future ROP meeting (ADAMS Accession No. ML21264A314).

The NRC Staff Re-opened and Extended the Public Comment Period for Westinghouse Facility Draft Environmental Impact Statement
On September 20, 2021, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff re-opened and extended for 60 days the public comment period for the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for the license renewal of the Westinghouse Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility located in Richland County, SC. The draft EIS comment period was originally scheduled to close on September 20, 2021; however, after careful consideration of requests from external stakeholders, the NRC decided to re-open and extend the comment period to allow more time for the public to develop and submit their comments on the draft EIS. The public comment period will now close on November 19, 2021.
NMSS Staff Held Joint Workshop with the FDA on Regulating Alpha-Emitting Radiopharmaceuticals
On September 22, 2021, the NMSS staff held a public workshop with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on developing and regulating novel alpha-emitting radiopharmaceuticals. The workshop was widely attended by more than 600 representatives of medical institutions, medical professional societies, the radiopharmaceutical industry, other Federal agencies, and Agreement State regulators, plus international medicine, industry, and government attendees.

Extending the Duration of the AP1000 Design Certification: Direct Final Rule and Issuance of Environmental Assessment; 10 CFR Part 52; [NRC-2020-0269; RIN 3150-AK56]
On September 22, 2021, the NRC published a notice in the Federal Register (86 FR 52593) amending its regulations to update the design to reflect changes provided by Westinghouse Electric Company LLC and to extend the duration of the AP1000 design certification for an additional 5 years. The NRC is also issuing an environmental assessment. The companion proposed rule was also published in the Federal Register on August 13, 2021 (86 FR 44652).
The final rule is effective December 6, 2021.

On September 20, 2021, contract number NNG15SD74B/31310021F0131 was awarded to Software Information Resource Corp. in Washington, DC. The purpose of this contract is to acquire WhatsUp Gold, which would allow users to manage networks, traffic, physical servers, VMs and applications, and customizable maps, dashboards, and alerts. The period of performance is from October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022, with four (4) option periods.
The total potential value of the contract can be up to $719,701.45.
