Items of Interest Week Ending FEBRUARY 21, 2020 Public Meeting to Discuss Draft Branch Technical Position 7-19 On February 11, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory staff held a public meeting with the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) and members of the public to discuss their proposed comments on draft Branch Technical Position (BTP) 7-19, Revision 8 (Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML192568502), as a result of the NRC's solicitation for comments . The staff discussed comments submitted by a member of the public (ADAMS Accession No. ML20037B054), presented the status of the BTP revision (ADAMS Accession No. ML20038A314) , and discussed preliminary comments from NEI (ADAMS Accession No. ML20038A193) . The solicitation period for public comments on BTP 7-19 closes on March 16, 2020. Thereafter, the staff plans to brief the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards subcommittee on the revisions to BTP 7-19 on June 1, 2020 and issue the final revision by Fall 2020.

Items of Interest Week Ending FEBRUARY 21, 2020 Revision of Fee Schedules: Fee Recovery for Fiscal Year 2020; Proposed Rule; Parts 170 and 171 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) [Regulatory Identifier Number (RIN) 3150-AK10; NRC-2017-0228; NRC-2019-0084; PRM-171-11 On February 18, 2020, the U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) published a document in the Federal Register (85 FR 9328) proposing to amend the licensing, inspection, special project, and annual fees charged to its applicants and licensees. These proposed amendments are necessary to implement the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990, as amended, which requires the NRC to recover approximately 90 percent of its annual budget through fees less certain amounts excluded from this fee-recovery requirement. Comments are requested by March 19, 2020.

Adjustment of Civil Penalties for Inflation for Fiscal Year 2020; Correction; Final Rule; Correcting Amendment; 10 CFR Parts 2 and 13 (RIN 3150-AK11; NRC-2018-0048)

On February 20, 2020, the NRC published a document in the Federal Register (85 FR 9661 ),

correcting a final rule that appeared in the Federal Register on January 15, 2020 (85 FR 2281 ),

that amended its regulations to adjust the maximum civil monetary penalties it can assess under statutes enforced by the agency. This document corrects the final rule to provide the correct maximum civil monetary penalty, per day, for a violation of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, or any regulation or order issued under the Atomic Energy Act. The correction was effective on February 20 , 2020.
