Items of Interest Week Ending JANUARY 17, 2020 Public Meeting to Discuss Inspection Procedure 71111.21N.02, Design-Basis Capability of Power-Operated Valves (POV) Under 10 CFR 50.55a Requirements On January 9, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 3 public meeting at the NRC Region IV office to discuss Inspection Procedure 71111.21N.02, Design-Basis Capability of Power-Operated Valves (POV) Under the Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations 50.55a Requirements and sought industry and public feedback on the inspection.

The NRC staff discussed the reasoning for inspecting POVs, how the inspection will be implemented, and how the NRC used lessons learned during the Environmental Qualifications inspections to prepare for POV inspection implementation. Items of Interest Week Ending JANUARY 17, 2020 Adjustment of Civil Penalties for Inflation for Fiscal Year 2020: Final Rule; Parts 2 and 13 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations; Regulatory Identifier Number 3150-AK11; NRC-2018-0048 On January 15, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) published a document in the Federal Register (85 FR 2281) amending its regulations to adjust the maximum civil monetary penalties it can assess under statutes enforced by the agency. These changes are mandated by the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act of 1990, as amended by the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015. The NRC is amending its regulations to adjust the maximum civil monetary penalty for a violation of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, or any regulation or order issued under the Atomic Energy Act from $298,211 to $303,471 per violation, per day. Additionally, the NRC is amending provisions concerning program fraud civil penalties by adjusting the maximum civil monetary penalty under the Program Fraud Civil Remedies Act from $11,463 to $11,665 for each false claim or statement. This final rule is effective on January 15, 2020.
