Items of Interest Week Ending JUNE 21, 2019 Staff Issues Grand Gulf Tornado Missile Risk Evaluator (TMRE) Amendment On June 18, 2019, the staff issued an amendment to Entergy Operations Inc. authorizing the site-specific implementation of the Tornado Missile Risk Evaluator methodology at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19123A014). This is the last of three pilot reviews that were submitted to support development of a generic NEI methodology that could be used by plants to submit risk-informed amendment requests to address legacy tornado missile non-conformances. The generic NEI methodology was provided in support of the pilots but has not been submitted for NRC approval. Licensees may develop plant-specific submittals subject to the applicable regulatory coristraints in each of the pilot approvals.

Items of Interest Week Ending JUNE 21, 2019 Withdrawal of Regulatory Issue Summary 2005-29 and its Draft Revision 1 "Anticipated Transients That Could Develop Into More Serious Events:" Chapter 1 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (NRC-2015-0167)
On June 20, 2019, the NRC published in the Federal Register (84 FR 28775) a notice withdrawing the Regulatory Issue Summary (RIS) 2005-29 and its draft Revision 1, "Anticipated Transients that Could Develop into More Serious Events." These documents are being withdrawn because the NRC staff identified several regulatory and technical positions within the RIS and draft Revision 1 that either required clarification, were no longer supported, or were identified as a new agency position. The effective date of the withdrawal of the RIS 2005-29 and its draft Revision 1 is June 20, 2019.
