Items of Interest Week Ending January 19, 2018 Incorporation by Reference of American Society of Mechanical Engineers Codes and Code Cases; Correction; Correcting Amendment; Part 50 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) (Regulation Identifier Number (RIN) 3150-AI97; NRC-2011-0088)

On January 18, 2018, the NRC published a document in the Federal Register (FR) (83 FR 2525) correcting a final rule that was published in the FR on July 18, 2017 (82 FR 32934), to incorporate by reference recent editions of, and addenda to, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Codes for nuclear power plants. The final rule contained a minor error when referring to a table related to certification requirements for non-destructive examination personnel, and a minor error in a requirement for check valve monitoring. This document corrects the final rule by revising the section that contains these errors. This correction was effective January 18, 2018.

Approval of American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code Cases; Final Rule; 10 CFR Part 50 (RIN 3150-AJ13; NRC-2012-0059)

On January 17, 2018, the NRC published a final rule in the FR (83 FR 2331) amending its regulations to incorporate by reference the latest revisions of three regulatory guides (RGs) approving new, revised, and reaffirmed Code Cases published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). This final rule announces the availability of the final versions of the three RGs that are being incorporated by reference. Further, the final rule announces the availability of a related RG, not incorporated by reference into the NRC's regulations that lists Code Cases that the NRC has not approved for use. This final rule is effective on February 16, 2018. The incorporation by reference of certain publications listed in the regulation is approved by the Director of the Federal Register as of February 16, 2018.
