August 19, 2011 Docket No. 50-443 SBK-L-11175 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk One White Flint North 11555 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD 20852 Seabrook Station Emergency Response Data System (ERDS) Changes Pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, Section VI.3, "Maintaining the Emergency Response Data System," NextEra Energy Seabrook, LLC (NextEra) is submitting this letter to inform the NRC of changes to the Seabrook Station emergency response data system (ERDS) link software scheduled to be implemented in September 2011.
These changes will involve a conversion from a dial-up modem based system to a more reliable internet based system using a plant information server and NRC supplied virtual private network (VPN) appliance. Testing of the VPN-based ERDS system was completed with the NRC on August 16, 2011. Full implementation of the system will occur on or about September 20, 2011, once procedures are updated and operator training has been completed.
During implementation of this change, the ERDS link will remain available and will not affect the plant's ability to activate the ERDS link, if required.
This information is being provided in compliance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix E, Section VI.3.b, which requires notification 30 days prior to any hardware or software changes that could affect the transmission format or computer communication protocol to the ERDS.
