NRC letter RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE - REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RE: LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST FOR MODIFICATION TO THE RESTRICTED AND EXCLUSION AREAS FOR THE RENEWED FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NO. CX-22 (EPID: L-2019-LLA-0254), ADAMS Accession No. ML20135H159, dated May 19, 2020 Mr. Xiaosong Yin, Project Manager:

This letter submits a response to the above referenced letter. We have carefully reviewed and discussed the 3 RAIs in the NRC letter. To address these RAIs, we determined that we will need to perform additional radiation dose measurements and soil sampling analysis. We are in the process of scheduling these tests. However, considering the impact of covid-19 and associated scheduling challenges, we have not been able to complete the planned tests. Therefore, we request additional time to satisfactorily respond to your request for additional information.

As discussed and suggested during telephone on June 23, 2020, we have now reviewed and evaluated the soil sampling and analysis schedule. In addition to tests and analysis, Rensselaers NSRB is required to review/approve our response letter. To enable this, we propose to provide a response by August 24, 2020. We will do best to try and provide our response earlier than this date if at all possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely, Wei Ji Dr. Wei Ji, Facility Director School of Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
