NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION 801 Warrenville Road Lisle IL 60532 Web Site: http://www.nrc.gov No. III-02-010 March 27, 2002 CONTACT: Jan Strasma (630) 829-9663 E-mail: opa3@nrc.gov NRC TO MEET WITH FIRSTENERGY APRIL 3 TO DISCUSS PERRY NUCLEAR POWER STATION PERFORMANCE The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with representatives of FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company in Perry, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 3, to discuss the results of the agencys annual assessment of safety performance at the Perry Nuclear Power Station. The facility is located near Perry.

The meeting, which will be the open to the public for observation, is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Room 6 of the Tarbuck Educational and Community Center, 4325 Manchester Road, Perry.

Before the meeting is concluded, NRC officials will answer questions from members of the public.

The performance period to be discussed is April 1 through December 31 of last year.

A letter sent from the NRC Region III office to FirstEnergy addresses plant performance during the period and will serve as the basis for the meeting discussion. It is available on the NRC web site at:
