Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Perry Nuclear Power Station The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Jim Beavers as the new senior resident inspector at the Perry Nuclear Power Station, located in Perry, Ohio, 35 miles northeast of Cleveland.

Beavers joined the NRC in 2009 as an emergency preparedness inspector in Lisle, Illinois, at the Region III office. He served both as a resident inspector and acting senior resident inspector at the Duane Arnold nuclear power plant. He has also been an acting resident inspector at the Davis-Besse, LaSalle and Perry nuclear power plants. In 2019, he worked as the senior resident inspector at the Clinton Nuclear Power Station.

Beavers served six years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Tecumseh in various roles, including as submarine propulsion plant supervisor. Subsequently, he worked in the nuclear industry as an NRC-licensed reactor operator and as a senior reactor operator instructor. Beavers also worked with the International Atomic Energy Agency as an emergency preparedness and response officer.

Jim brings in-depth knowledge of plant operations, training, and emergency preparedness with extensive experience implementing the Reactor Oversight Process. His work in nuclear reactor safety, both domestically and internationally, will help him carry out the agencys safety mission, said NRC Region III Administrator Jack Giessner. He has all of the qualifications to be an outstanding senior resident inspector at Perry.

Beavers holds a bachelors degree in applied science and technology from Thomas Edison State College (now known as Thomas Edison State University).

Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations. Beavers joins NRC resident inspector Tyrone Ospino at the Perry plant. They will serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections and monitoring significant work projects.
