NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 E-mail: opa.resource@nrc.gov Site: http://www.nrc.gov No.10-161 September 13, 2010 ASLB CANCELS SEPT. 17 PREHEARING CONFERENCE ON VOGTLE NEW REACTOR APPLICATION The Nuclear Regulatory Commission Atomic Safety and Licensing Board has canceled a prehearing conference previously scheduled for Sept. 17 in Rockville, Md., regarding a revived challenge to Southern Nuclear Operating Companys Combined License application for two new reactors at the Vogtle site in Georgia.

The Board said the unexpected withdrawal on September 10 of counsel for the three organizations challenging the application impedes the proper conduct of the scheduled oral argument. The Board will decide whether to reschedule the session once the organizations resolve the matter of their representation before the Board.
